So I have 2 HD's in my system. Today I decided to upgrade my Vista RC1 to Vista HP retail. Well, I transfered my data from my C: drive onto my other hd (e:) in RC1. After I formated and installed vista onto my C drive, I now want the other HD to be detected again. So I go to adminstrative tools and disk management. It tells me the only way I can get the drive to be detected is if I format it! I need the info on that disk! How can I make the HD detectable without having to format it?!

Thanks

The latest release of Ubuntu has NTFS write support, try booting into a Linux liveCD (it will detect and mount both your drives) and using it to copy the files you need to the new hard drive, then you can safely format it and copy them back.

Hackish, I know, but it will work.

Disregard, sorry, apparently the support needs to be installed, it doesn't come included, so thats a no-go with the LiveCD

This is very scary, I have not heard of this one in Vista before. It should have auto detected it as a working second drive on boot up.

dont format it yet.... plug it into a friends computer or work computer or something with a USB external enc..

Compusa sells one for like $25

transfter the data to the work PC and burn it to DVDs or try formating the drive at work NTFS and then transfer the data back..

keep the data on the other PC incase it doesn't work..
