I got in on the 80gb WD drive sale at officemax, and im thinking of running a raid 0 with my year old 80gig WD. first off will there be an issue with running a old drive with a new one. do you think i will see a significant difference in speed. im gonna be video editing/ encoding dvds

or do you think i should just use it as a 2nd drive and do my editing from there

thanks

that application is one where there would be a distinct advantage
as long as they are the same make and model there shouldnt be any isues.

However, treat it as performace space, transitional storage, dont leave anything you cant replace on it for any extended length of time.

I typically run a HDD as a standalone or in a redundant RAID for a period of a month or two before its commited to a RAID 0 array
that way any damage that may have occured before I got it (from shipping\imapct\manufacturing fault\improper handling) has time to manifest itself, after that period of time I figure its probably going to last at least its warranty lifespan with care

implementation counts

what drives\controller and in comparison to what?

personally i don't like RAID 0 much, but i agree, give it a try and make sure you don't keep anything on it you can't replace.

also make sure you try different stripe sizes for the best performance.
