Is My PSU too Weak?

Hmm, I vaugely remember an older AMD board I had required the Motherboard drivers and a separate Network driver.

I'm a bit puzzled how this could affect the video card unless the network card is using the same IRQ or something.
I also wouldnt expect a PCI bridge not installing to be anything to do with a network driver.
But seeing as the network adapter has popped its ugly head up twice now, its worth solving that first.
If its not that, we can continue on.

Tell us he exact motherboard mfr and model you have.
This matters because each motherboard can have a different network adapter if not using the NVidia options.
The mfr website should list which drivers are required.

The exact MotherBoard model I have is DFi NF570SLi-M2/G. I dont think Dfi provides you with what drivers are needed.

You clearly have not installed the latest drivers issued by DFI if you havent used their support website before.

Here you are, try them before doing anything else.

I would start afresh by uninstalling ALL the drivers you have installed first and reboot.
You dont need a separate network driver, they are all included in the package.

Usually, power supply problems cause stability issues rather than low performance.

Right. Stability issues and/or incorrectly/partially rendered 3D graphics.(Like purple walls and no textures and stuff like that.)

I get Purple And

Black walls in CS:S sometimes if that indicates anything...

Ok, i uninstalled any Mobo drivers that i currently had and restarted the comp. I installed the drivers from the link you sent me from the DFI website. I restarted my comp again.
In Device Manager, I have no Yellow Exclamation Mark . Instead it has a new section labeled - "Nvidia Network Bus Enumerator" with a tab with the same name under it. Everything looks like its working fine in there.

Has it fixed the problems you had?

The problems with the performance concerningy FPS and picture quality are still bad. However, we did fix the incorrect device in Device Manager. Thanks to all who helped. What should I do next?

If you have corrupted graphics, it's most likely you got a bum card. It does happen. Test it in a known good machine with an adequate PSU. If it's still flaky, then you need to RMA it. If it works, you're problem is most likely a motherboard or PSU issue.

No the Video Card cannot be flaky, for I have done an RMA already and it works in my brothers rig. The only two hardware products that can be the problem is the mobo or PSU, correct. I personally think the mobo is the problem, so what I am gonna do first is try my brothers PSU which is also 550Watt but its Antec TruPower, which is a better manufacturer. It has 19A on each rail (2 rails). If i get the same performance, i will buy an AM2/AM2+ slot Mobo from Asus with a 780a or 750a chipset. However, if that doesnt work either, I will still be happy that I upgraded my Mobo and I will buy a 750-800Watt Psu and the problem should be solved.

-What do you guys think about my conclusion?

-Thanks again.

Something I forgot to verify:
Have you applied the AMD dual core patch and CPU driver?

If that doesnt sort it, try another fresh install of windows on a spare drive but this time only install the correct drivers (not the older motherboard ones you had).
Its possible a hangover from the older drivers exists causing a problem.

-Where can i get these?

*Thanks a lot Nenu*

As long as your PSU is putting out good power, 550w is more than enough for your system. Hell, I'm running a Q6600, 4 1 GB sticks of RAM, and a 9600GT on a 450watt supply with room to spare. I'm got another box with a Q6600, 2GB, and an 8500GT with a 300watt supply without issue.

A quick question regarding PSU and graphics cards. When a card specs call for a "minimum" PSU of say 300 watt (like your 8500GT), does the CPU and RAM play into this at all? Can I "get by" with a less PSU then is called for on the graphic card?

I have a work computer with a PSU that is slightly less then a graphic card I want to put in it calls for....

Yes, 300watts is 300 watts. PSU's don't usually specifiy wattage per component connected to it.

The wattage recommendation by the GPU manufacturere is generally overrated to account for "xxx" watt PSU's that couldn't reach their ratings even in a cheapskate's wet dream. So it really depends on what your PSU you're talking about and what components you're going to put on it.

the sun will burn out before that PC uses 550W. rosewill are not horrible. I used a 500W one for a year and then got a AcBel 500W for free from helping run a hardware review site. The 500W rosewill sat under my bed for probably 6 months and then we upgraded my brothers computer and put it in there and its been running fine since.

Just because its not a big name brand doesn't mean its causing low performance on your PC. If you've got a decent PSU and 500W is plenty its going to be the last thing you look at for causing poor performance. It might be a driver problem, maybe a reformat would help.

Its your just worried about your bench scores it might be your CPU holding things back. I know I'm 1000-2000 points below what others with my video card are scoring but thats because my CPU is bottle necking.

uninstall your video drivers, boot into safe mode, run the guru3d.com driver sweeper, reboot then install new video drivers. thats the first thing to do.

wow am2 still requires dual core drivers? i thought it was a bad bios update on your mobo personally.. or using the driver cd that came with the mobo would be a bad idea.. you try flashing your bios again to the newest one out?

and you already did try reinstalling windows or using a diff hd?

I did not flash my BIOS again, but i did reinstall windows and used a diff. HD.

so you try the dual core drivers? if that doesnt work id try to flash teh bios to newest one.. if you dont know how to flash the bios read this guys guide / tool .. you will need to download the bios from the dfi site tho since i think it only has newer / older dfi bios's on it.. ( i didnt see yours listed.. but it will work if you point it to the bios file on your C: drive.. )

I installed both the dual core drivers and the dual core optimizer and i noticed no difference.

_What shall I do next?_

here is ez way to flash the bios.. download it put it on the C: drive and use this shit..

thought i posted the link before..

if newest bios doesnt help i guess the pcie slot is bad? not sure what after that but i hope it helps..

Your 8800GTS performing better than your 7600GT, but not better enough.

Your friends computer gets "way better performance" with a lesser graphics card.

The 8800GTS is giving you "less FPS than it should".

you occasionally get purple walls in CS:S.

As you can see, everything you've said so far, except for the purple walls, is entirely subjective. You were even specifically asked what res you were running at and you didn't answer. You never even said what kind of FPS you're getting.

Here's some vague things to try that may help your vague problem.

Check your CPU/GPU/Chipset temps at load
put all your BIOS settings to default
flash your BIOS to an earlier version.
isolate if your problem is CPU/MB or GPU (shamelessly plagiarized):

First drop the resolution to as low as it will go, and turn all settings on low. You may even be able to tweak the game to stop rendering some objects, and really drop the graphics quality. If your frame rates don't improve whatsoever, then your CPU/platform is limiting your performance. So you would then know, that upgrading your GPU will not bring that game to playable levels.
However, if you find that by lowering your settings to such a disgusting degree, actually brings the game to a playable level. Then an upgrade of the GPU will let you turn the settings up, and your CPU should remain up to the task.

My CPU/GPU/Chipset temps run as followed:
CPU - 28C on idle, ~34C Full load
GPU - 47C on idle ~ 52C Full load
Chipset - 22C on idle ~ 28C Full load

- My BIOS settings are on default

-I cannot figure out how to flash my BIOS to an earlier version (I think this is problem)

-My problem is CPU/MB, for i got an RMA for my GPU twice and I am getting the same performance rates. My CPU is new and works fine according to 3dmark06. I still think my mobo is the problem.

*Thanks*

super nice temps.. LEARN HOW TO FLASH TEH BIOS>> i gave you good link to start to learn but not sure if you want to learn ;/ maybe your buddy can help you flash the bios..
