No way am i trying to invoke the wrath of people.... but how is it worth spending $450 on a video card when you can spend $150 each year for 3 years and more than likely end up having your second $150 work better, and for SURE tehe third one, than if you woulda had the $450 in the first place.

I realize that.... I guess it's just like the guy with the Corvette... makes ya feel better or something... heh :D

I just know you can get a $150 vid card right NOW, that will run everything out there with reasonable detail.... not FULL detail on ALL games.... but very reasonable amounts....

P.S. A 9600 Pro($100 vid card) will run NFS Underground, and NHL2005 @1024x768 with full detail, without a hitch.
 
This'll only work if you're happy with lower-mainstream-level performance. If you want to apply this method, you're much better off buying two $225 cards in two years instead of three $150 cards in three.

Ok.... either way, for bang for the buck, is it not more economical what I'm saying? I just know that I bought a GTS when they first came out for well over $300, and within 2 years $100 cards were just as fast if not faster.

Simply put, you can not run Doom III at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 16xAA in Ultra Quality with a 6600GT at playable FPS. The 6800GT's and Ultra's are worth the cost if you really need that kind of performance and visual quality to be happy.

If you don't mind 1024x768 with some AA and AF and medium to high detail then sure. You're better off buying mid range.

You could even argue that if your happy with mid range performance, you can buy a high end solution now for $450 instead of buying a $150-200 card every year and get three years out of the one card. Thus you save by not buying as often.

AND you don't have to swap out video cards as often. I'm trying to stay on a two-year cycle, myself, but I find myself wanting more eye-candy so I'm moving from "upper-mainstream" to "lower-enthusiast" cards. Plus, I can actually afford it these days. :D
