..or are current LCD PC monitors just smaller 1080p TVs?

Apparently, along the way the last few years, the PC monitor business forgot that PCs, while are used a lot for movies and entertainment, are still used to do some work, which is more designed for 16:10 not 16:9. I was thinking of getting a newer monitor, but I'd be loathe to try to write something and losing the ability to display 2 full pages onscreen without scrolling. ugh.

Much cheaper for the companies when they can just produce one sized aspect ratios. And 1080p is so easy to market, it's no surprise really. Companies only have their best interests in hear.

You could make the same argument during the switch from 4:3 to 16:10.

One aspect ratio for pictures, movies, TV shows, and games makes for a happy ecosystem.

Soon enough there will be no TVs and computer monitors, just displays that do or don't have a TV tuner built in available in a myriad of sizes.

Going from smaller to larger isn't bad.. But going from larger to smaller sucks.

I guess I'll have to get something to put my PC on and use my desk entirely to put 2 monitors on.. That'll solve the issue, at least until the old monitor dies. :D

I can not say I saw it coming but I bought 6 - 1920*1200 monitors with MVA panels a few years back. I love them. If they ever go down I will pay for the repair rather than get a 1080 panel.

There are still 16:10 monitors out there if you look.. you don't HAVE to buy 16:9 yet.
