i'm going to buy a new monitor very soon and i've narrowed my findings down to 2 choices.

the ViewSonic VA1912wb 19" widescreen monitor

and

the BenQ FP202W Black 20.1" widescreen monitor

i know most people would say go with the dell 20.1 inch or the viewsonic 20.1 inch but i don't want to spend more than $300 and i was wondering is that 1.1 inches really worth the almost $100 extra?

You do know that because of the diagonal measurements, a small difference in rated screen size can make a big difference in actual screen size, right? It's just math.

That said, I really don't know how much of a difference you'd personally notice.

You also want to take into consideration the difference in native resolution; 1440x900 vs 1680x1050. The 20" screen ends up seeming like it has more than that 1" in screen real estate.

QFT

the 20" is a lot better than "just 1 inch" however the price difference is very substantial so if you really are on a tight budget overall the 19" may be the better choice.

my friend was thinking about this before he got his 2405. He was talking to this other guy about getting a display. My friend goes so u think it makes a diff between 20 and 24in? the other guy goes well imagine it was your penis. Do you think 4in really matters? my friends answer was hell ya. I had a chance to play on all sizes from 15 to 24 ws and i can say for me 20in is the sweetspot. Id like to go bigger but gpu cant handle it with the eye candy and fps.

imo if you already have 12x10 17 or 19 non ws display, get a step up and get 20in ws. Its a little more demanding but its better over time once u get better gpus and games.

Ditto that. It's not just about physical space. The desktop resolution also matters. 1680x1050 gives you more breathing room than 1440x900. I find anything less than 1600x1200 a bit cramped myself having used a 1600x1200 monitor for 6 years now, but that's just me.
