Iran Builds AMD Based Supercomputer

well, while we're name calling, i'll simply refer to you as "Bill O"

K.

you seem to miss my point....$7.50 is not making a living....that is barely getting by. yes you may be able to have a house....but you're not going to make a living...you're going to be part of the working poor - you know, the group that would need the money more than haliburton.

My mom did it with 3 kids.... Oh GODDD, not the Haliburton.... Clearly the Bush administration is out to rob the general public

i've worked for 7.50...and i can tell you right now, it was the most depressing years of my life. it's fine for students - but for an adult its not a way to live. then try adding kids....and 7.50 is NOT going to be acceptable.

Ideally you should complete your education and THEN start a family, but it is not always possible, but again, most family members and other donation supported institutions will get you the support you need.

and would i want to protect the soldiers? HELL YEAH....but you also have to ask yourself, or would you rather someone use them for their own agenda?

Says the left-wingers who want to bring them home and make them feel like they have failed to complete their task THEY signed up for.

and i love how you make unemployed people bums all of a sudden. now they're the lowest of the low. i think you're view is seriously out of whack. try living the way these people do, then come back and we'll talk.

If you quit your job or do not want one, then yes, you are a bum. Maybe your location is different, but all the unemployed around my area are either pursuing different interests (alcohol, drugs, etc...) and their family does not care for that activity around them and so they are not willing to support them.

and to go back on track here.....what you're saying is EXACTLY my original point. if Iran is paying money for a supercomputer (for whatever reason - doesn't have to be for bad) that it is taking away money from their population. what is so different between that and the States with their war in Iraq? I don't see anything that is different except that the supercomputer for Iran could actually in tern help it's citizens.

You kind of looked away from the point, why would we give MORE benefits to the bums I mention.

Its not like we already give them welfare, but you want more?!?!?!

I don't see a problem with this as there are thousands of legitimate businesses and study programs in Iran. Iran isn't such a bad country if you discount their government and extremists.

The problem is that there's an embargo against the sale of U.S. made technology to Iran, regardless of what it's used for.Believe me,this is one kind of publicity AMD definitely didn't want. It's kind of hard to discount a government that supports terrorists.

So, the US has never supported terrorist?

iakona,

Don't waste your breathe/bandwidth. There are many people who believe their country is infallible, just look at what the Europeans have done and continue to do in Asia and Africa. It will soon be the turn of the Chinese.

If you have a definition for "terrorist" that everyone can agree on that would be interesting.

The "free market" types undid all the protections we had in place to prevent enemy nations from obtaining critical tech. Up until Bush 1, it was impossible for Iran to legally purchase AMD/Intel cpu chips..... ditto for the USSR and China.

Oh well, if the great minds figured we didn't need to hold the tech embargos, then it must be ok.

Enjoy. :eek::rolleyes::p

YA!!! Slow them down with IBM, VIA, and Cyrix chips!!!

You guys are obsessed with politics :p

Have you forgotten that there are real people living inside of countries that's no different from you or me?

They also have a Mohammad Bob bin Smith just like we do.

LOL!!

ok, this is getting pretty petty at this point. if you want to keep going point to point, then by all means i'll continue, but all i have to say - to any troops ANYWHERE - i would NEVER insult them in making them feel as though THEY failed. it's not them who failed - it's their leaders.

the troops are the bravest people in the world and just because people want to bring them home (or, in my case, SEND THEM TO THE RIGHT COUNTRY) doesn't mean the "left wing" is trying to make them feel like they failed. you can't fault the troops, they're only doing what their told.

Ok, let's share a laugh and then get to business.

They signed up to respect and obey their leader, why sign up for something you do not want to do? It is their job, they have to do it or they will be fired. The people who do not want to fight get fired, you know... sort of like a real job...

The troops love to fight, well, it is their job, they signed up for it, they trained for it and want to do it. The President is voted in by the people, for the people. If they did not like him they could have chosen Kerry. 9/11 happened, so... do we just sit around and get bullied? No.

as i do believe, a surge in troops enlisting was directly after 9/11 (and now they're talking about instituting a draft...seems like that enlisting has slowed since the "War on Terror" has now become the "War of Iraq")....at which time there was this great rally to get the bad guys. fair enough, but why did they end up going to Iraq when they still haven't found/eliminated Osama, the one who actually planned the attacks. The troops signed up to fight those who did wrong against America, so far i haven't seen any Iraqis attacking US citizens on US soil (before the date when US troops went into Iraq).

Yes 9/11 happened, but that also doesn't give the President:

a) a blank check for war
b) not doing enough actual fact finding to launch an effective (possibly counter-terrorist) attack on a different country from where they should be. Take out the Taliban and Osama, THEN go for Saddam....but i guess that makes too much sense.

oh, and one more thing....regarding the presidents "fine job"....how is good ol' Dubya's approval ratings? still in the 30's?

But it is okay for the U.S to bulley others? no, so now you know the consequences, and bush was voted in before 9//1 i recall, how could anyone of predicted what woould of happened, i am sure if someone had a magic crystyal ball and know this would happen, they wouldnt of fixed bushes votes to win.

The war was over in 2003 I believe, right now we are returning democracy, and peace to the Middle East. We caught Hussein, more than we can say about catching Hitler, and definitely less casualties along the way.

Eh, 2500+ people dying in one day is not enough to take action!?!?

To my knowledge they have caught/killed most of his top terrorist buddies in his organization, he may just be a mysterious aura, but eh.

oh, and one more thing....regarding the presidents "fine job"....how is good ol' Dubya's approval ratings? still in the 30's?

I love how they blame the lack of information on the President, the lack of information coming from brickheads that the soldiers arrest.

Kthx.

Clearly the Bush administration is out to rob the general public

best thing you said this whole time, and the most correct thing. they DO want to rob the general public, do you think the fed gives a damn about anyone? if they did we wouldn't be on fiat money, be in dept up to our necks, be stretched too thin, and being scared into submission here at home...homegrown terrorist prevention act anyone? i mean really, do they need to name a build the Reichstag and set it on fire to put things in perspective?

that being said this I am saying this and i'm a republican

as for iran...the reality of it is...they have just as much right to computing power as everyone else, everytime america tries to portray them as evil it turns out that its PR spin. if israel or turkey built these it would be a non headline. but just because its Iran its OMGBBQ BOMBZ.... the reality of it is there are far more dangerous nations out there, that are less about PR (Iran is all about looking big for regional reasons) and more about power and control...and some of those we call "allies"

on top of that, Iran is no less extremism than america, look at statements that came from the US, put them side by side...there is not enough difference for us to justify the moral high ground.

and yes I just caught that horrid typo in my post, my apologies.

and this is coming from a republican*

there corrected

Ya, really, I mean they are just trying to hold us down, MANN. RIIIIGGGHT.

Yeah, we are not worried about Russia either!??!!? (see: biggest non-nuclear bomb)

RIIIITTTEEE, you got it bud.

do some research outside of the mainstream...there is a ton of information out there, just read it all and draw your own conclusions.

and you are right. i'm actually a libertarian with a conservative bend, re-registered republican to vote for Dr. Paul

anyway, sorry but i stand by my points, its out there to be researched if you care to, the bottom line is, don't believe 100% either side of any story, listen to both and logically draw your own conclusion.

After I read this article yesterday, I called up my buddy at AMD.

Me: So, Joe, are you guys in deep crap after that news, at least you guys didn't sell them the chips directly, or you'd be in real trouble with the Feds.

Joe: No, we're in the clear, and actually, we did sell them the chips directly, to an Iranian shell company working out of Italy. They couldn't even spell "Scuderia" right!

Me: Lol, what did you do, ship them a bunch of relabeled Nexgen 6x86 chips without the co-processors? Mothballed K5s?

Joe: They're not stupid, they'd know the difference. Actually, I can't tell you anymore. Cya Saturday.

Confused, I met up with my old roomate who now works in the CIA.

Me: Yeah, and Joe said they shipped them current chips, he must be on crack. Why aren't you sending in the gestapo on their collective asses?

Brady: You know I can't talk about this...

8 beers later...

Brady: Yeah, so like that whole thing about the bad microcode on those phenom chips. We told AMD to make sure the FPU would generate a 5% rounding error whenever a calculation involved multiplication against the molar weight of uranium hexafluoride gas. We figured we'd sneak that in their shipment and hose their weapons program for years. Some idiot must have slipped that microcode into their production batches.

Me: Oh, that explains everything....

Brady: Yeah, I made out like a bandit short selling AMD that week. Cya saturday, and tell Joe to bring the buffalo wings
