What are some good IPS or S-IPS displays for graphic designers. I am looking for something under $600 with good color accuracy. I will be doing design work in Adobe suit CS5

Thanks

HP z2740w is closer to $700, but that's what I would recommend if the anti-glare coating doesn't bother you.

Otherwise one of the Korean eBay panels for $300, or the Microcenter Auria for $400 if you can find one, will look great as well.

They use the same panel as the HP, just with a glossy finish, and they are technically "A-" panels, so from eBay there is a slight chance you may get a stuck pixel or two. The Auria looks very close to the HP in terms of color (see link above) - just with a touch more backlight glow.

Never use a glossy display for graphics design. It'll nuke the contrast on the image you're working on unless you always work in a completely darkened room.

The Dell U2711 or similar is a good choice with H-IPS, 10-bit panel (12-bit LUT) and many niceties. As a bonus it also does AdobeRGB and HDR quite well.

If you are less demanding and/or want a smaller display there's the U2410 (H-IPS), the U2412M (e-IPS) and HP ZR2440w.

For graphics design work or CAD, it may be hard to find a quality professional monitor for under 600 dollars. You may want to check ebay or some other place for used NEC WUXI model or a Viewsonic VP2655wb which uses the same panel as the NEC monitors. Both are geared for graphics design, CAD, and are also great for gaming.

None of this matters if you forget to regularly calibrate your monitor (Spyder, Huey, ColorMunki).

Yep. spend 300-400 for a korean 27 ips, and spend 100 for a calibrator. Then you will be set. Otherwise you looking at 500 for just dell 2410, and still 100 for calibrator.
