IPS or TN panel?

Looking for 2 new 1980x1050 panels (or some other configuration if you guys think it's better) since the current ones are starting to break down (very bad flicker and some dead pixels).

What's it going to be used for? Everything.
Gaming
browsing
programming
watching movies and series
...

All in more or less equal parts. So right now IPS has my preference because it looks better although it's slower than a TN panel.
I haven't really found any VA panels but i think IPS is better?

budget: at most 400-ish euros, should be enough for 2 decent (not super) panels?
 
I always preferred PVA panels due to the decent response time and darker black levels. IPS would be my second choice, or first choice if I was doing design work due to the accuracy.

TNs are third rung in my experience, but your only choice if you want super-fast response time.
 
I don't really care about response times. I'm not that much of a hardcore gamer.

AFAIK VA screens are a compromise between TN and IPS, no? Can you recommend any (200-ish euros if possible)?
 
A lower-priced IPS panel is going to have 6-bit color, just like a cheap TN panel, and it will probably have weaker blacks than a cheap TN panel. It may also produce a somewhat less sharp image than a TN, due to the pixel structure and/or the heavy AG coating. It will, on the other hand, have a more uniform contrast than a TN panel, assuming you can ignore the "glow" in the corners.

For a general purpose display, I would argue that A-MVA is better than either IPS or TN. A-MVA panels are all 8-bit and they produce much deeper blacks than the other two types. (Obviously deep blacks make everything look better.) The only downside to an A-MVA panel is the radial shift in contrast, and so you should probably view one of these screens in person before you buy. Assuming you can tolerate the off-center shift in black level, the BenQ GW2x55 series and Dell S2440L have received fairly good reviews.
 
i see, i was thinking of buying one online but reading this it might be better to view one in person before deciding.

My standards aren't really that high. I'm running a cheap (as in it was cheap when i bought it 8 years ago) 22" LCD screen. Which has served me well i must add :)
 
after a bit of searching i came across the iiyama X2483HSU. I can't seem to find any decent reviews for it though so does anyone here have any experience with this one?
