Hello. So far 2 new 23" IPS models.

Viewsonics has one for $300 while the NEC is $369. The NEC has the ECO Mode and lower power consumption so over the lifetime of the monitor, that $69 will be paid off and some.

The NEC seems to be the better of the two, correct?

I checked both manuals online. The NEC seems to be slightly superior of the two.

I have a 19" CRT now which is having slight issues (nothing horrible), and I realize I can save at least $10+ a month energy bills with the NEC in ECO Mode.

If it takes approx 3 years to pay back the monitor in full with the savings from energy bills, does it pay to get?

B+H Photo Video should have the monitor in stock very soon so I will see the monitor in person before I buy it.

The Viwesonic VP2365wb and the NEC EA231WMi seem to be using the same panel. Your choice would be based on price, looks, availability or if one manges to provide less input lag.

If the input lag and picture quality is the same I personally would get the $369 NEC over the $300 Viewsonic; based purely on having black buttons compared to the grey ones on the Viewsonic.

Also Replacing your crt with any lcd will save you $$$ on your energy bills by how much thats up to you on how much you use it. I personally wouldn't be using the ECO mode at all on the NEC.

You've already answered your question ^_^. You know your financial situation better than anyone else. Judging by the fact you still use a crt it indicates that you keep your monitor for a long time. So it should be worth it for you.

Ah, the second 23" e-IPS model has come to light.

I've just sent off an email anent the availability of the model in Australia.

The NEC also has audio w/ its built-in speakers which look pretty discrete, if you choose to use them.

For me, with displayport (and a new AMD card) I would def rather pay extra for the NEC and have a second audio out option in addition to my spdif/optical out speaker setup. The NEC also has that nice headset speaker jack on the side.

FWIW, the Viewsonic also has an eco mode, but I have no idea how those work.

Just another point of consideration.

The energy "savings" I hear about in regard to products such as these almost always seem over stated to me. I had a 22" and a 21" CRT that ran nearly 24/7. Switching to LCD's never showed any tangible change to my electric bill.
