The title may be a bit misleading... but it's almost true.

Long story short, I built a new comp and included a 74gb Raptor and a 300-ish gb WD storage drive (I think 300gb Caviar SE.. I'll have to double check). I intended to put games on the Raptor and movies on the big one.

Now, during the XP initial setup, both drives were available for formatting. I started with the Raptor, since I didn't really have any intention of installing XP on a storage-only drive if I could avoid it. I'm typing from this setup now, and BF2 runs perfectly/no real system bugs or crashes (except one annoying one I'm gonna ask about on the General Hardware forums).

Anyway, both hard drives show up under Device Manager. I can look at the 300gb drive, see what drivers it is using, etc. etc. However, I cannot "see" it on the My Computer screen. It is unrecognized/unusable by everything except BIOS and XP Device Manager, it seems.

So, my question is "Wha?" Do I need to boot XP from the disc again and format the other drive that way without installing XP? Or is there some obscure setting I have to poke with a stick to get the drive to appear? Maybe I should try switching where the SATA cable is plugged in, but that seems moot if the comp recognizes the drive.

Blarg.. suggestions will be appreciated.
 
Right click on my computer and select manage. A window will pop up, select disk management. Select your 300 gb drive. You should be able to format it and assign a drive letter from here. Hope this helps.
 
Several WD hard drives come formated with a diffrent format, so it is not able to be browsed from the computer, although it shows up in the device manager.

This is quite normal.

Check to see if your hard drive came with a CD from WD. If you have an OEM version, you may have to check online. Run it, and it will format it correctly. Then you may have to just restart your computer and everything will be fine.

I belive its called something like WD data lifeguard.
I just double checked on the WD site, goto support, downloads, then click your drive, then select the program for your OS.
