Hi. First time poster, long time forum lurker(guest). I've see some great mods, and funny posts so I felt compeled resently to join in the fun and start posting.

About 2 years ago I bought my first PC, I picked up a 9000pro the next day end set off on a fantastic journey...yes I was introduced to the interactive crack we all have come to know as Counter Strike!

Last week my 9P(ATI9000pro) started make this buzzing hurrrrrrr like noise. My mother has a small dog that barks when the wind blows but not even little Georgie is as annoying as the noise that is comeing out of the 9P.

Conclusions.
1. Buy new GPU...I would, but I don't have much money it looks like conclusion 2., suits best.
2. Replace the fan.
3. Drown out the noise by playing Tom Wait's Rain Dogs on repeat 24/7.

So I opened up the panel to check out the GPU and found that the fan rests inside a heatsync coweling. With a tape measure I found that the cowling is 45mm wide, at least I hope. I would like to find a replacement fan, if anyone has any suggestions where/what to pick up that would be apreciated.

I've found a replacement fan, but I'm not sure if its what I'm looking for. It looks like the arms are the wrong way...I don't know if it'll fit correctly in the heatsync coweling.

How about just a heatsink, and thermal tape (or thermal epoxy?) No fan. Can't get any quieter than passive cooling.

Or if you have the space, how about unplugging the vga fan, and getting a Zalman bracket cooler (like the fan that comes with their 'flower cooler') and have that blow over the vga.
 
My 8500LE didn't have mounting holes around the core of the video card. What I ended up doing was attaching a Zalman NB32J onto the core with a mixture of Arctic Silver Ceramique over the core and super glue on the corners to hold the heatsink down. You can read my worklog here. The 9000 Pro and 8500LE are quite similar physically. Just make sure you've got good airflow through the case.
 
Nice job, though that NB47J takes up two PCI slots. :eek: Did you completely clean off the core of the GPU? It looked like it wasn't clean before you applied the AS5. You had mounting holes around that GPU, making things a lot easier. My 8500LE didn't.
 
I didn't clean off all the glue, I scraped and chizzle alot of it off and made sure it was smooth before putting on the composite.

Your work logs is well laid out, although I'm envious of your clean up job? How did you get it so clean of glue? Is that dark stuff in the chip depression themal composite or what not? I would redo the process if I could think of a process to make it more clean.
 
Are you talking about the silkscreen that identifies the GPU?

I used a lot of dad's industrial strength mold cleaner. It'll eat paint. I sprayed the stuff onto the glue, let it sit, and used a razor blade to take the glue off. It becomes pretty soft if you do it enough times.
