Ok, now atm i have a 9600, not oc'ed at all, and i cant quite run two monitors off in (one moniter displaying a game, World of Warcraft, CSS: the second playing a dvd in WMP), when doin this the frame on the WMP drop, cause the sound to be outta sync.

Now my question is, im thinking of upgrading to a 6600gt, becasue there cheap, but i wanna know if that upgrade will be enough to run both monitors smoothly?

And thoughts?

You wont have ANY problem running both monitors on a 6600gt. In fact, a 6600gt is a huge upgrade from your 9600..

i have a dual monitor ati setup and i had a dual monitor nvidia 6600 setup. i must say that i like the dual monitor support in the nvidia drivers a lot better. there are more options, such as spanning task bar across two screens. i think ati is a bit more stable though...

as for performance, the 6600gt will rape your 9600. it would be a worthy upgrade!

I don't think it will. Your processor is most likely to blame, and/or your amount of RAM.

You'd be better off, for what you want to do, putting the money aside and saving for a better overall system anyway.

It's important to note that the PCI-E 6600GT purevideo functions are going to continue being supported going forward.

I've read several places that the AGP version of the 6600GT PureVideo is having audio sync problems and that the latest drivers actually deactivated the hardware acceleration of WMV HD content in WMP 10. It may be returned to operation with the fixes planed for WMP 11, but it's possible it may continue to be deactivated.

Thus, I recommend, if your system isn't already PCI-E, to look into upgrading to this platform when purchasing your card. Why is this relevant, other posters may ask, because the OP asked about dual monitor support and mentioned WMP performance.

Having good PureVideo performance will be important for future WMV HD and eventually H.624 content support. Existing Mpeg2 support will work fine for both AGP or PCI-E, I just recommend that PCI-E will help lengthen the value of your purchase for a longer period of time.

In additon, I'm amazed with the absolute smooth play in HL2 "the Lost Coast". I've got it on Full HDR, HIgh on all settings, 4XAA and 2XAF and it's extremely smooth, fast response at 1024x768. Not bad at all for new gaming tech on an existing low-mid level graphics card. The 6600GT will provide good gaming response for next years titles as well, based on the experience that I'm receiving. I'm also using a Zalman VF-700cu and have this OC to performance that comes real close to 6800GT results, so with proper cooling the 6600GT is very overclockable. SLI is also a possibility if you purchase the appropriate motherboard.

Look at my SIG, I've a SLI capable motherboard and a single card at this time. With rebates and more, you can easily pick up an SLI capable motherboard for about or less than $100.00. Check out NEWEGG for your choices.

Ok, well ive decided to get a 6800gt, but the question whether to spend an extra $100 (aust) for the ultra, seems a little to much, for the power boost. Thoughts?

btw, the rest of the sys will be:

3500+ - hoping to upgrade it to a 3700/3800+, if the prices go down by the time christmas comes round =)
1GB, OCZ premier series (its not worth more then twice the amount for 2GB)
ASUS A8N Ultra nforce4 ultra

I dont think its worth $100 extra. You can flash your GT or overclock it to Ultra speeds easily. Even if that doesn't work, a GT is still a GREAT card.

Hey blitz if you live in Aus you can get a 7800GT for probably the same price as a 6800GT. but if not get the 6800GT rather than the 6800Ultra. Performance wise, 6800Ultra isn't a great deal better.

got some cheap parts there if u didn't already know about them, but if you dun live anywhere close....well they dun deliver lol so yeh.

I tend to try and stick to the base line of video cards. I'd stick with the 6600gt that will most likely be my next videocard purchase.
