i just reformated my computer and now the internet doesn't work. that computer and the computer i'm using right now are connected to a linksys router. they were both working fine before i reformatted and now the only this one works. this one has windows 2000 and the other has xp. any idea how to fix this? thanks.
 
Are your network card drivers installed? Everything is pretty much autodetect by default when using a network.
 
haha yes I've been in that situation several times too. Just how were you expecting to connect to the network without your drivers installed? You are obviously connected to the internet somehow to post this, so use that computer to download the network card drivers, put them on a disk, then put that disk in your other computer. That just seems pretty obvious, though, so was there something else holding you up? I feel like I'm reading bash.org or something.
 
if its not the drivers have you configured the network card yet? sounds like a dumb question but I figured I'd check :)
 
In windows, network cards default to getting all their network information via a dhcp server, which your linksys router is more than likely running. If the network card is in and the drivers are installed properly then you shouldn't need to configure anything. Did you install the network card drivers?

btw, don't double post. post in the most appropriate forum.
 
i just installed the drivers and now it says i have two network connects. one is called 1394 connection and 1394 net adapter is below it. the other is local area connection 2 and intel pro/100 network connection is below it. the internet still doesn't work. when i do ipconfig, dns suffix is blank, autoconfig ip is filled, subnet mask is filled, and default gateway is blank.
