I have a problem that is becoming more typical. My Asus VW266H screen displays red dots on some blacks.

They always sparkle (black-red-black-red) and the problem goes away if I just turn the LCD off for a second.

It typically occurs coming out of standby, but sometimes happens when the computer is in use.

What's causing this? Bad DVI cable? Bad LCD? videocard? The video card is at stock clocks, and never been overclocked.

It's in the signal somewhere. Whether it's the video card, or the panel controller card, or the cable/ connection between, is what you will have to determine. Replacements for each will allow you to eliminate the culprit.

I had the same issue with my monitor almost since I bought it in March 2008, but I didn't realize it until after the 30 day return policy was over and never went through the problem of sending it to Samsung until now. I searched all over the internet for solutions but never could find the problem. With mine its actually red or blue pixels that usually appear where black and white should be but sometimes its red on red... The blue on white only recently started happening which is why I am sending it in. its not dead or stuck pixels because it will move with the image on the screen but stay in the same place on the image...

Checked the gpu (8800GTs) and they work on a different monitor without any problems. Hooked up a laptop using a different input and it had the same problem which means it was the monitor! It could be a connection issue or card inside the monitor but one way or another its on/in the monitor itself causing the issue, not the cables or gpu. If your issue is the same as mine then contact the manuf about the warranty. Mine luckily was under a 3 year warranty from Samsung (factory standard warranty), the model was 2493HM and I did it all on their site, they gave me a UPS label to print and we will see what happens (I don't pay shipping to or from, they do).
