How can I tell if a video file is interlaced so that I can use the deinterlace function on the VLC - and also, how will I know which method to use (linear, bob, blend, etc....)
If you turn the deinterlace filter off and you see feathering in your video, then you've got interlacing. Many (if not most) TV shows are interlaced except maybe for some newer ones.
