Interesting.. Land Grid Array-- no more broken pins!

[edit: removed a hurt response on my part]

I had heard Land Grid Array and all of that, I only thought it was extra pins (new socket) and all.. I never had heard any mention of "No pins!".

So yeah, I've heard about LGA for a while.. just not the pins.

I was mostly wondering about phase change.. if thermal grease is put all over the socket to prevent condensation would it interfere with the contact somehow? I guess not.. just trying to check if there were potential problems here.

Ah, so the pins are in the socket, not on the cpu. I thought it looked like two flat metal contact points touching each other, from the link in my first post (which I came across from the Hardocp news recently).

Guess that clears up my phase change question, thanks.

Thanks for clearing that up..

At first glance, it seemed like you were like someone that enters another person's thread and craps on them without offering any new information.

I can accept crap if there's at least some new information.. without that I jumped into self-defense mode.

No hard feelings.. you did lead me to a link that showed a more sideways view of the socket itself, revealing the pins sticking out. That was very helpful..

I don't crap threads other than being humorous. Glad to be of assistance at least someone appreciates it.

This isn't the first time there have been pin-less CPUs (excluding SECC/Slot... the CPUs inside still have pins). I remember the LCC (leadless chip carrier) CPUs. Intel, Harris and AMD made '286 chips in that format. Those were weird... flat, ceramic/metal packaging and about a 1.5mm thick.

Yup I got one of those cpu. R80286-12 , made in 85. No pins.
12 mhz.
I also got a N80286-10 , 10 mhz, but this one has some kind of pins.
