is there a theme to intel's core naming?
cuz for amd it's horses: thoroughbred, mustang, barton, etc..

Intel uses names of rivers and towns to name PC processors. There are a few exceptions... for example, Banias is a lake in Israel, but that processor was designed in Israel.

Also, before a Ford and others complained, AMD was naming processors after cars/planes (Spitfire, Thunderbird, Mustang).

I cant believe you have not heard the names Northwood, Tualatin or Mendocino before... :p

AMD had codenamed all of the K6 processors after characters from The Land Before Time (Little Foot, Chompers, Sharp Tooth).
