Intel Xeon MP cpu's???

Ok I did search but didnt find much about it...

what is the difference of say a piii xeon 700 and a p4 2.5 xeon mp?
I never heard of the MP xeon...

I own a hp dl380 g2
dual piii 1.4
1.5gb ram
smart array 5i controller
3x73gb (raid 5)
3x146gb (raid 5)

machine works great...

however I would like more drive bays and not need an external array....

so browing ebay I landed a SAWEET deal..
ML570 G2
2xp4 2.5 MP Xeon (quad capable)
2gb ram
guy doesnt list any other cards but I can tell there is a rilo ii and an array controller

so my dl380g2 does a good job at everything it is running.... but this new machine is gonna be great.. no need to replace server for ever... just add 2 more cpu's and can even go to a quad 3.0..........

Xeon MP CPUs are 'server' class ones. They start at 1.6ghz /512KB L2 /1MB L3/400mhz FSB all the way to 3.6ghz/1MB L2/16MB L3/ 1333mhz FSB. Most are 64bit CPUs, but some of th early ones where 32bit. The MP CPUs also have the extra glue logic to support 4 or more CPUs in a single system.

Nice buy One warning, the ML570 series sound like a F16 taking off They push a lot of air for the CPUs and hardrives.

Anyways, I would bet 99.9993% they are 64bit CPUs. The way to tell is to run CPUID under Linux or CPU-Z under Windoze. Either one of those programs will list out the full specs on the CPUs including if they support 64 and/or 32 bit code.

well i just picked it up yesterday... a friend of mine also bought one... but the 4 x 2.0 mp xeon and his are 32 bit.... Im banking on these being 32 bit but 64 would be sweet!!!!

They're 32-bit. CPU-Z indicates it where it lists the instructions. 64-bit processors have EMT64 listed in that string. The ML570g2 is a good box, you'll see a big difference between it and your PIII Xeons.

hah my dual piii was not even a xeon...

but yeah this one will be nice....however I have to rebuild it...
I cheated and lost in the end...
I just took my drives from my old machine and put them in and went with it.. took for ever to launch (guess doing things behind the scenes)...
so now im gonna rebuild it but first do virtual machines so in the future im not down 100%
my server is a
domain controller, active directory, dns, dhcp, web server, homeseer home automation, altiris deployment server, backup exec server, sql 2000 box and a few other things...
so if I do virtual servers for most of that.. next time.. just rebuild and launch the vms and up and running....

wow just got it powered up... runs NICE!!!!!

loaded on the scsi side too...

all my hard drives are ultra 320
and I have 2 array controllers.. hp 642 which are ultra 320
3x76gb on one in one drive bay
3x146gb on the other controller in the other bay
