OK here is the deal guys my friend is a dumb idiot and he just built this stupid Intel Celeron Rig and he thinks it be equal or the same as my Intel Pentium 4 Rig so i decided to prove him by setting up some benchmarks, these benchmarks consist of Gaming with HL2, Doom3, NFSU2 and Rome total war, Encoding and Shrinking DVD's and AVI files roughly around 4.7gb each files, Multi tasking, Aqua marks and 3D marks, i am proving to him that my P4 will rip his celeron in half.

My Rig:
Intel P4 640 3.2Ghz HT LGA 775
GigaByte 8I915P Duo Pro
2x512 GEIL DDR400 Running at Dual Channel
Gigabyte 6600GT PCI-E Turbo Force Edition @ 515/1120
120GB seagate Sata 7200 RPM
4x80mm case fans
LG GSA-4160B 16x dual layer dvd burner

Friends Rig:
Intel Celeron D 2.4Ghz
Some Gigabyte Mobo
Generic 512DDR400
80GB Western Digital IDE
Gigabyte FX-5500 128mb AGP
Pioneer Dual layer DVD burner 16x

I just want to prove his ass wrong so bad because his been bragging about his Rig,
Lolz the last Benchmark i have setup againts my other friend AMD system was so close but i lost in the last criteria i Win 5 he won 6 :(

If you dont win with that rig i would be ashamed to go outside

Lolz I know i won't lost to that crappy box, just want to make him shut up, its a million to one chance that i will lose. :)

First off, that Celeron-D isn't too shabby of a CPU. But the weakest link on your friend's Celeron system is that GeForce FX 5500 card - it's barely faster than a GeForce FX 5200 (which we all know is crap).

And currently, PCI-Express offers no performance advantage over AGP. That Celeron friend of yours really needs a 6800GT or an X800XL just to equal the gaming performance of your P4 640/PCIe 6600GT rig - because the Celeron is inherently lesser-performing than a P4, and his Celeron runs one-fourth slower than your P4.

He has another advantage SATA hd :)
Not exactly. The SATA controller used by the i915P chipset may or may not support NCQ, depending on the "southbridge" chip used. Also, command queuing can slow down performance in single-user environments. Third, some hard drives are inherently slower-performing than others, even with an equal RPM spindle speed and an equal amount of cache.

By the way, the 8I915P Duo Pro motherboard supports NCQ on its native SATA controller. But only certain uses take any advantage at all whatsoever of that feature.

Why are you so preoccupied with belittling your friend by proving that your computer is faster. If he's just bragging about his computer who cares, if he starts saying how his is faster than yours it won't take much to prove that yours is faster.

"...my friend is a dumb idiot...", that isnt something I'd say about any of my friends.

word

Just show him how to do basic math.
3.2
-2.4
------
0.8 GHz less speed he has right off the bat, let alone you have a faster bus, HT, cache, etc, etc.

Not to mention EVERYTHING else in your system is better than his.

If he still thinks his is better, find new friends please, thanks.

P4 vs Celeron D:
33% faster processor 3.2Ghz vs 2.4Ghz (BIGGEST factor for overall performance)
50% faster FSB 800FSB vs 533FSB (minor difference in most apps. - helps gaming)
700% more L2 cache 2048Kb vs 256Kb (can be a HUGE difference depending on app)
HT vs no HT - can make multi-tasking so much smoother

GigaByte 8I915P Duo Pro vs Some Gigabyte Mobo - probably no difference

2x512 vs 1x512?(or 2x256?) if his ram is not dual channel it will hurt it in gaming

6600GT oc'd vs FX-5500 BIGGEST factor for gaming

120GB sata vs 80GB IDE (no difference)

4fans vs ? fans (your case is louder!)
16x vs 16x (nothing)

Of all the things worth worrying about in this world...... The only thing that comes to my mind is "WHO CARES?"

If you think the Celeron D is so crappy, what you need to do is get him to OVERCLOCK the 2.4G Celeron D to 3.2G

You would then have a real reference point to make comaparisons, since the CPU speed would be the same.

Once that's been done, if you compare the Encoding and Shrinking DVDs, you will find your friend's rig will perform about the same as yours.

Your rig will outperform his rig in any OTHER benchmarks, however.......

He would need to overclock that Celeron to at least 3.5ghz, if not more, to come close to the performance of the Pentium 4. Even if he were to do that, you still have the HT, higher bus speed, and cache advantage.

That's true but even without NCQ, the Seagate kicks the crap out of the WD=P I have both drivers and have ran them on the same system. i915P has ICH6/R and does improve over ICH5R when SATA drivers are used.

My take on what Chris said.

GigaByte 8I915P Duo Pro vs Some Gigabyte Mobo - probably no difference

2x512 vs 1x512?(or 2x256?) I noticed a big jump in all around performance going from 512 to 1GB of RAM!

Celeron vs a P4, P4 crushes even the newest Celeron-D=P I set my 2.6C back to stock and it kills my bud's Celeron at 3.3GHz. No HT and small cache means don't even try to multi task!

6600GT oc'd vs FX-5500 BIGGEST factor for gaming
Even if you both were using Celerons you cream em'! Hehehehe.

120GB sata vs 80GB IDE (no difference)
Some difference, 120GB Seagate would have little impact on gaming. May level loads faster or etc.

4fans vs ? fans (your case is louder!)
16x vs 16x (nothing)

I agree. It would help though if you knew what motherboard he was using. I'd say take him on if that's your thing? The old saying goes, "The only thing sure to happen in a pissing contest is that someone will get pissed on". Play "mine is faster" enough times and eventhough you'd be the piss-er this time, the next time you might be the piss-ee hehehehe!

Lolz ok ill try to find what Mobo his running see if i can get him to OC it to around 3.2 or 3.3Ghz, he have been saying a huge amount of crap how the P4 600 series is a piece of crap and a waste of money, the only reason why i get the 600 series because of the 64bit and i am a intel person.

His motherboard is a gigabyte 2004rz and he will not overclock his CPU and his Graphic card is not a Fx 5500 its a FX 5200.

Well, he does have you beat in one area....price. His computer is probably half the cost of yours, but I highly doubt your computer is twice as fast in everything.

celeron is a pos. my cousin has a 2.5g celeron, and i thought, 2.5g, now i can install the same kind of software i have in my computer, pos, his celeron is slow like ass. :)

That's because that particular 2.5GB Celeron has only 128K L2 cache and runs on a 100MHz (400MHz effective) FSB. That combination makes that 2.5G Celery run like crappy-crap-crap!

celeron < amd xp < amd64 < intel p4 c;e < fx55

ummm not really

celeron < duron < celeron D < amd XP <= P4 B < P4C, E (with HT) = A64 < Pentium D < Pentium M <= FX55 < A X2

generalized

lots other variables in there.. but thats an approximation....
obviously it depends on the application / benchmark, speed of processor, etc..
