Intel SRCS16 RAID controller

I am looking for a lower-end 4-port or 6-port hardware-controlled RAID controller for a workstation. I've already considered

• 3ware 9550SXU-4LP, but ruled it out because I don't want to restrict myself to a motherboard with a PCI-X slot

• Areca cards, but ruled them out because I want a low-noise PC, and they have fans.

I've come across the Intel SRCS16, but can find nothing about it. Does anyone have any experience of this card? Or does anyone have any alternative recommendations?

I'd be interested getting general impressions, including for example:

• Does it do what it says on the box?
• Is it reliable?
• Is it a good solution from a price/performance point of view?
• Does it have any serious drawbacks?
