Here's what I have to work with:
Pentium 4 (prescott) 630 3ghz
2x 1024mb ddr2 533 ram
Asus p5pl2 945 chipset motherboard
Problem: can't get processor past +20 fsb, have tried increase voltages and adjusting ram frequency

Background info: had same results with an ecs 945 chipset mobo (thought mobo's fault), pentium d 930 (3ghz processor, elinated cpu's fault)

What I think is responsible so far: My stupidity, 945 chipset, mushkin ram sticks

I have also tried my asus mobo's preset overclock profiles that are supposed to adjust my hardware to the best stability + maximum overclock. Are these overclock profiles reliable? Regardless, I still get only a 10% oc on my cpu, manual or preset configuration.

start your overclocking at 475mhz and yuse your multiplier and ratio to get that and after that work yourself up .

Do not start overclocking with the speed your ram is rated at , work yourself towards the rated speed but do not start with the speed its rated , in your case its 533.

If you can start lower than 475mhz , then try that .Get back to me after trying this.

I don't recall that feature(probably set it to auto), but what does it do?

Ya, make sure you lock your AGP/PCI frequencies 66/33.. That sounds like the problem.. because otherwise as you increase the FSB, you also bring up the PCI and AGP frequencies which make them really unstable. IIRC AGP and PCI frequency are very picky.. I think you can get it up to like 34/67 before the cards refuse to work..

So if I have a pci express slot, I lock that to 66 and my pci slot to 33?

pci-express put at 100, set pci to 33

his board doesn't have agp, you're just confusing him :p

Finally did it. I love you guys. I can't believe I returned 3 boards over a silly thing like this. Where were you guys when I drove 10+ miles to my local frys on 6 different occasions to return and purchase "defective" motherboards? WHERE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Anyway, I hope the frys employees are as newb as me and really think those boards were defective.
Edit: I forgot to mention that i loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove
you guys in a borderline homosexual way

100 is default,

and in the thread linked above which explains this.... putting it above 100 can help too with this particular board if your oc gets stuck at some point
