i dealt with amd for awhile, but i've been out of the computer scene when it comes to intel... so i am planning on building a p4 3.0C 800 mhz fsb with an abit 865 G mobo.. concerning ram.. what speed should i get (ddr)... please take price into heavy consideration.

Really you only need PC3200 to run 1:1. If you want to overclock then get faster RAM. I suggest some PC3500 because it still has low latency and it's relatively cheap.

Are you kidding? Why would you get a 3.0C and then buy cheap ram? Get a 2.6C, overclock, and use the saved money to buy a heatsink and for ram upgrades. Also, for motherboard, I recommend the IS7.

I recommend the 3.0c with pc3200 and overclock. You never know for sure what you'll get with a 2.6c and you'll most definitely get higher with a 3.0c. The Northwoods have really dropped in price too. They are very reasonable now.

Make sure you only buy name brand RAM like Mushkin, Corsair, and Kingston.

If you wanna overclock just set your divider to 5:4 and do it with the PC3200. Timings are more important than bandwidth after a given point of meeting the processors requirements.

Mushkin PC3200 lvl1 is really good and cheap too for a 1GB kit. Its like $213.
