TechwareLabs has posted a review of the Intel Core i7 2600K for those of you interested. You can see our evaluation from back in January here for comparison purposes.

The Second Generation of the Intel Core Processor Family took off this past January with many early adopters pleasantly surprised by the abundance of speed, updated technologies, and better graphics integration. The high-end option in the 2nd Gen family is the beastly Core i7-2600K. The i7-2600K takes on all the features of the 2nd Gen i5 series with 1 major addition to the specifications - Intel Hyper-Threading Technology.

Seems we have have reached a point where faster CPU's are overkill for the vast majority of applications. All about reducing power consumption with the same level of perfomance now, and consolidating chipset/GPU functions on the die while shrinking the cpu size at the same time.

it all seems to run in cycles, faster/smaller/faster... depending on the demands apps have for cpu power.

Not to be nit-picky, but isn't this the (at least) fourth generation Core CPU? We had Core (solo/duo), Core 2 (solo/duo/quad), Core i3/5/7 sockets 1156/1366, and now the socket 1155 version.

I upgraded from a Q9650 to a 2600K,and I'm glad I waited out the 9 series chips...I see no reason this chip wont last at least 2 generations also...maybe more
