Installing windows xp pro through lan connection???

Okay, i am planning on purchasing an ultraportable laptop n400c or n410c and am wondering if i can install software through a lan connection. I want to freshly install xp pro once i get my laptop. If possible, i can just save some bucks and forget about buying the docking station with the optical drive in it. Is it possible to just open up RUN and type in something to run a cd in my desktop that i conncected to my laptop with a ethernet cable? Hopefully i am making some sense. Also, incase my laptop does not come with a preinstalled OS, is there a way i can do the same with the C prompt commands?? Thanks for any info.
 
If you had Symantec Ghost, you could pull a sysprepped image down from another machine.
