Installing Vista on a harddrive that already has XP, but has 30gb of empty partition.

So I have my Raptor harddrive partitioned into 40gb for my XP installation, and I also have about 30gb of space basically "blank" and ready for a partition.

Now, the question is, can I perhaps use Partition Magic or another program and make the Vista installation the primary parition, and therefore, keep my XP installation intact?

Or would I have to install Vista before installing XP on another partition. I would normally just install on another harddrive, but I'd rather have both OSs running off the fastest harddrive I have.

Just install Vista to the spare space, Vista has it's own format tool and PM8 doesn't support Vista anyway. Vista will not temper your old XP as long as they are not on the same partition IIRC. Just the MBR on the first partition on the drive.

Ok, I am curious because I read that Vista is "fussy" and has to have the primary partition of the harddrive.
