installing new psu

i am getting a new psu (700w extreme gamer). am i able to just unplug the cord from the back of my old psu(stock 300w) and just plug it into my new one? or do i have to unplug everything and hook everything back up. Should i bring this in to my computer guy to get done, since im not very sure what im doing? Can it seriously mess up my pc if i plug something in the wrong place?

You'll struggle to put anything in the wrong place, just dont force anything.
The plugs are made so they will only fit in the designed power socket.

If you forget a connector, it will either work anyway or not power up.
It wont cause any damage.
 
so you think i should totally disconnect my current supply, and then plug everything back up woth my new psu. Because with my current psu there are many plugs that are not plugged in to anything....and there are slots that they would fit in. so how will i know what to plug in or leave unplugged?
 
Your motherboard manual is a good place to find such things.

Only one thing I can think to be aware of, there is sometimes a female molex connector on the motherboard that looks like the power connector style for old Hard Drives / CDRoms etc.
Dont plug a power connector into that, it is supposedly for providing power to PCI-E devices from the motherboard.
I have never seen a use for it though.
