I'm new to ATA, and since I'm going to be picking up a new system, I was looking to switching over. I'm going to be getting the SB65G2 . I'm currently reading a review over at Hexus that says that the shuttle is only able of running an ata drive independently. What does this mean? Would this be a good drive to get for the shuttle I'm looking at?

Looks like there is no onboard HW raid controller, meaning you can still connect up to 2 devices, but can not set them up in a raid array, thats just for the SATA controller..but im sure you ment SATA and not just ATA.
As for the seagate drive, that should be fine. Are you looking for for speed or storage? Is your looking for optimal speed out of the drive and don't need much storage a WD Raptor might be up your alley. If your looking for the storage, then you might be able to do better for the same price range. I got a 250gb SATA drive from Maxtor on newegg for like 80 dollars a few months ago.

I want both. I'm switching my main rig over to a SFF PC. In my old rig, I had 3 hard drives that totaled over 200 gig. But they were all IDE. So I was thinking that multiple hard drives in a SFF would be bad because of heat, so I wanted one large hard drive. I also figured that ATA or SATA would be fast. I'm not sure what the difference is - I just want something faster than IDE that has good storage. Because I download a lot of....."large" things that need a lot of space 
SATA is going to be a little faster than normal IDE ATA100/133 - SATA is about equal to say ATA150 or so, obviously its just a burst rating, but generally SATA performs better than a normal IDE drive would. Unfortunately they haven't gotten to the point where they have very large 10,000 rpm SATA drives, hopefully they will soon. I'd say that drive is fine on both counts it will be a little quicker than what you came from specially since it will be 1 drive and not spanning 3.
