Incredibly jumpy connection

The connection in my dorm room seems to be getting worse and worse by the day. My pings in games are disgustingly jumpy, and gameplay will pause for seconds at a time. Is there ANYTHING I can do about this, or am I stuck with this lousy internet and shafted out of my shooters?

There's nothing you can do about the school connection (and what you've described is more or less the norm now).

You could probably disconnect from the school net and get your own connection, however.

In a dorm room? How on earth does one do that?

You may be able to get cable internet, or DSL in your dorm. I know in the college I live near, you can get both.
