Alright, I'm looking at the Shure E2c, Sony ND71s, and Etymotic ER6P. I've heard these babies have great sound quality and noise isolation. But I'm worried that I can't run or be active with them, and that the chords are easily damaged. Is this the case?

Which pair should I pick? is there a manufacturer that I'm missing? I'm thinking that street-style phoens would hold up better, but do they hurt your ear?
 
The Shure is far better than the sonys. i have both, and teh shure is more accurate, but requires a quality amp stage in your equipment. most cd players will push it fine, but some cheap mp3 players wont.

The sony works on everything fine, but it's sound is not near as smooth or detailed. I find the sonys are easier to put in your ear and are more comfy....but that's due to me having abnormally tiny ear canals...my ear canals as a 5'9" male are smaller than a 4'9" female's...so i really need to make some custom earpeices for my shure or buy the silicone earpads.

Really fit is a big part of canalphones....but drop the coin on the shure...the sound is about as good as $100 can get.
 
steve, i'm definitely leaning towards the Shure for the solid sound and noise isolation i keep hearing about.

However, can i go jogging with the shure's? I don't know if it's true, but i hear that in-ear headphones are more prone to getting the wires ruined than other headphones.
 
The cord on the Shures is thicker than any stock headphones I have had or seen.

I have never found this to be true. My shures work well on my 2G iPod, and it is known to have quieter volumes than many other players.
 
the iPod is a quality unit, but on the notebooks we use at work, the shure's won't work at all...i have to use the headphone out on my speakers instead.

It's all about how the amp can handle different loads, and as you go up in the world of headphones, the better phones are often harder for an amp to drive. In loudspeaker amps, the number to represent an amps ability to handle varying loads gracefully is "damping factor". This is a spec that is rarely even published, but makes a lot of difference. In most consumer gear, an op-amp is used, and since 90% of consumers dont care about damping factor, it's not measured.

Actually iPods have for the longest time, been considered one of the best in terms of integrated op-amp quality.

But....still for a t-40 thinkpad....no go with shures, never got mine to work on them.
 
BTW you can go joggin with them, but i would consider that a massive safety hazard to do so...your ability to hear around you is massively impaired....almsot on par with being deaf. If you jog around traffic, it will be far too easy to get ran over and never hear it coming.

I should know, i nearly got clipped by a train of all things...I backed up and felt something take out my jacket...didnt even hear it behind me. After that point I decided to not use headphones while moving around,only when seated.

I was thinking of getting a set of streetstyle or earbud headphones in addition to the Shure E2C's.

Which is better for running, earbud or streetstyle?
 
just dont get those earclip ones, those never stay on and generally suck.

the behind the head band looks ok, but i know sound qual wont be on par..but for sports use should be fine.

my shures are pretty much home, plane and train only....plus i dont like carrying $100 phones all the time.
