In a dual display setup while playing games is it possible to have one monitor go into the game normally and have the second one showing the desktop with an internet browser open for example?

I didn't think this was possible, but I also wasn't sure if there was somethign out there that would allow me to do this?

Ultramon can do this along with Alt+Tabbing out of the game but it pushes Trillian out of the way kinda. I never have a need for my second display while gaming though. You should be fine though.

it does it by default.
When I play GTA: VC, UT, and AOM, whatever is on the second screen stays there but some of the stuff that is on the promary screen shifts over to the second display since my games resolution is lower than my desktop. I run 1600x1200 on each screen, but my games are set to 800x600 to 1280x1024.

I wanted to try and do something like this with an older 17" Sony CRT I have lying around, Would it be feasible to use the following setup:

Primary Screen Dell 2001FP via DVI connection on ATI 9800 PRO

Secondary Screen Sony 17" CRT Via Analog conn on 9800 Pro

When Gaming at 2001FP at Native Resolution 1600 x 1200 use the lil monitor for browsing and chat, ect ect ect....

Would Ultramon be the way to go with this and what would be required to do stuff on the Secondary monitor? is alt - Tabbing out required? If so, Would that not defeat the purpose?

I guess my relevent question after all that blabbering would be, is this worth doing, other than do get the experience of making a dual monitor system work?

the second screen would only be good for monitoring, if your pointer happens to go over to the second screen and you click the mouse button, the game will minimize.
when playing Age of Mythology, I have to be careful not to click the mouse if the pointer goes to the other screen. UT and Vice city don't have this problem on my setup.
