on my video card, and they were reaaaally hot. lately, ive been getting more glitches, and that was after i closed my case up. i just wanna cool my video card down, so any ideas?

also, i have a case, with four 80 mm fans in front of the hard drive, and they are intake fans, but theres nowhere to get air from. the plastic case of the cover is covering it. so,, that made me think those fans might be useless. so yea. what can i do?
 
There are no vent holes or grilles or anything in front of the fans to let air in? Thats completely useless. IF there is no way to let air in youll have to make a way. Start drilling and curtting the plastic. ( carefully so it still looks presentable). IF you have 4 80mm intakes at the front and no exhausts at the rear Id move 2 of the fans to the rear of the case to get decent airflow happening. youll also want to look into bundling and moving ur wiring, specially the tape strips, to help the air flow thru.

As for your vid card. The stock passive heatsink isnt gonna do it if u plan to OC this card at all. Most cards, ATI and Nvidia both, come with truelly pathetic onboard cooling from the factory so its up to you to get it set straight. Look to see if there is a Arctic cooling Vga cooler available for your card. Its usually around $20.00 and is worlds better than the stock cooling. That should get you cooled down.
 
i went to newegg, and they have the coolers for the ATI 9600se, but i have a Powercolor Ati 9600se. will it still work?
 
well, i was just curious as to the exact temperature of the black spiky things, so i put a thermometer on it (the kind where you put in your armpit) and i dunno if its an accurate measure, but i got 100.2 degrees!!! i also dunno if that part's supposed to be hot
 
im assuming that it is 100 degrees F...

thats about 38 degrees C which is not a bad temp. if you are worried about it, there are two easy ways to cool this down...

1.) get a better hs or strap a fan to the passive hs on your card [like this]
2.) put an extra intake fan on your side panel blowing directly onto the card

was the thermometer that you used one with a metal tip? im asking because it is not smart to poke at things in your rig with metal objects while it is running. also, could you post your case temps, and what type of case you have?

just curious... :)

2)ill try that, but i'll need to take out a rear fan to try it out (or one of the supposedly useless front hard drive fans)

whoops. didn't know. i dunno how ot get the temperature, without using the thermometer(and now i dont wanna use it) so what programs can i get, if there is any?

except it has two places for 80mm fans in the rear. so all seven of my fan places are taken up, except the one on the side. so for number 2, which should i take out?
 
its pretty much up to you what you want to do for the cooling. i dont think you actually need one that badly - the 9600se has passive cooling because it doesn't get real hot anyways. the vga silencer will probably cool the card a little better, but it involves more time to install. if you just got a fan, it would be easier in that you could just strap it onto the passive hs...

i dont think that there are any programs that will tell you the temperature of your video card, but you could probably get one of these for monitoring... for case and cpu temps, download motherboard monitor.

move one of the fans from the front of the case to the side panel. 2 fans is more then enough for cooling a hard drive.
