[img] being converted to [attach]

If you try to insert an IMG tag with an external URL, the forum uploads the image as an attachment and then converts the BB code to [aattach] (with one a.. have to escape this somehow otherwise the whole post breaks, hence the pastebin links).

However, if the IMG tag is surrounded by URL tags, the URL tags disappears.

Case in point. Trying to create a clickable thumbnail image that links to a larger-size image using the following code:
https://pastebin.com/raw/BTfcXDke

Instead, it removes the URL and is converted to:
https://pastebin.com/raw/CBr3iTL7

Thus leaving the thumbnail no longer clickable.

Drag and drop the file into the editor and just host it here?

Won't that add the full-size image (well, up to the size of the browser window) inline? What if I don't want to annoy everyone with huge images and just want a tiny clickable thumbnail?

Then insert as Thumbnail, not as Full Image.

Considering another site provides me with the BB code to insert into a post (essentially the first pastebin like), it seem a little cumbersome to:

1. save the large image locally
2. go into the post and use the full editor
3. add the image as a thumbnail

versus simply:

1. pasting the BB code into quick edit the post like we used to.

Just food for thought.

Are you talking about adding a picture after making the initial post?

Because I can just drag and drop into the little quick reply box and then the thumbnail/full image options pop up automagically.

Edit: yep, that is how it works if you go back and edit a post.

However, for me it works a whole lot better to upload directly to this forum rather than post links to stuff a different sites.

Why? Because what happens if the image is removed from the other site or the other site goes down?

Then the post is left with a dead link and no image showing up.

And if I have access to this site, then the pictures will just load as well even if other sites are blocked.

Consider this point:

You want to link an image to somewhere, doesn't matter where, external site, anchor, you name it. You add the appropriate BBCode, URL tags surrounding an IMG. You go to post it and now your URL tags are gone. It is a link no more.

I think the point is, the ATTACH BBCode is poorly coded and destroys part of your post.

You mean like this? No need to use the IMG tag.. just put the BBCODE directly in the message.

And if you want to smallerize it, some sites support that in the bbcode automatically and other that do not.. see here:

But yeah.. the IMG tag is broken it looks like. I just tried it.
Basically, the IMG tag is no longer needed for the BBCODE links and should probably be either removed or fixed to work with the current setup.
