• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

image question

PS "whatever" doesnt generally include your computer
it needs to be on a server, so unless your computer is configured to serve those images, your local account wont cut it

BTW Masked Avenger your account name was visible :p

I deleted that thread, and while an account name without an IP isnt much use
I can see your IP as well, so try to watch that as a basic security measure in future ;)
there are less ethical people on the net and there is a power in knowing names

how do you configure your computer to serve images?

and how can people use your IP address? for what exactly?

With a web server. No offense, but as is, you'd just be opening new security holes for yourself at this point.

Given an IP, a malicious user can launch any and every electronic assault known to man upon your computer(s).

Think of it as posting your full telephone number on a board of telemarketer infested members and visualize the results ;) :D

.....only worse

with an account name (likely Id guess to be your administrative account) and an IP
someone could launch a brute force attack in an attempt to crack your logon password
giving them control of your computer, they would then run a rootkit to hide their actions and drop in a backdoor, they would then use you as a platform for further attacks, after they put a keylogger on your computer in an effort to find passwords, creditcard numbers, accounts ect.

with just the IP they can sniff out what OS you have, look for a misconfigured port
and try to run an exploit in an effort to gain control

bad bad bad

(scroll down to rampant paranoia 101)

as a note your IP wasnt visible to the forum at large ;)
just the account name, so you were not in danger, but its still a good idea to keep all your cards close to the chest
if your have a static IP (cable\broadband) protect your IP like you would an ATM card with the PIN number written on it :p

if your on dial up your assigned a new IP each time you connect ;)

And as an add-on to Ice's info, IP + quick port sniff for OS gives an excuse to brute-force Administrator or root, as appropriate (particularly since most Win users won't rename the Administrator account) -- why start off brute forcing anything less on a home system?

which is why nearly the first thing in that rampant paranoia 101 list is
how to change the default Admin account, and create a fake one ;)

(of course lomn75 already knows that having helped my refine that :p )
thanx again ;)
I really need to work on that FAQ some more, I'll see what I can do tonight
