okay i have the MSI K8N Neo Plat. with an athlon 3000+ OC @ 2.15 Ghz.

my idol temps are about 49-50

im using the cooler master Hyper 6 with 2 LED fans each blowing in.

with the stock HSF i got about 32-36 idol.

and dont tell me its my bios cuz im using MBM 5 not MSI BIOS,

now coming from the socket A CPU line im nto used to the CPU's with the big heat spreaders are there any tips on getting lower temps???....should i put thermal compound all over it or just in the middle?

Whereever the CPU is touching the heatsink. What compound are you using? You only need the slightest bit!
 
Are you sure the fan configuration is correct.

Maybe have them both blowing one way through the heatsink?

Seems like that heatsink should be doing better then the stock cooler.

btw its idle, idol is like american idol =P
 
you wanna put paste over the entire heatspreader, personally i just put a bead of paste in the middle of the spreader and let the heatsink spread it out for me when its put on, not sure if thats the best way to go about it though.

those idle temps are extremely high for any a64 cooler, try reinstalling the heatsink with new paste and see if that helps

edit: eck both fans are blowing directly into the heatsink? theres your problem, that is counterproductive as the fans are working against each other and not moving any air, make it so one fan blows into the heatsink and the other draws that air away to the back of the case,

i was kinda thinking that too....although when they both blow in it seems to force the air through the vents btu i also have exhaust fans int eh back of the case so if i make the air blow to the back and out the exhause it might be much better......thanks ill try that really soon.
