I have turned my boxen back on. I returned from vacation early so I could get my boxen to finish some more WU's.
I drove to Las Vegas and stayed in a really nice Marriott Resort and Casino in Summerlin. It was awesome! I recommend it to everyone!
In Southern California, near Los Angeles, I visited the Fry's in Anaheim (My favorite Frys location) and bought some 1 TB hard drives for cheap. I visited my family in the area and then drove up the coast. We went to Malibu, Hearst Castle, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the Tech Center in San Jose, California. I highly recommend the Tech Center. It is an amazing place for kids of all ages.
I spent the day in San Francisco: Coit Tower, Union Square, Lombard Street, and Chinatown.
In Hollywood I saw something that I wish I had not seen... A sex act in broad daylight on a public sidewalk. Uuugghhh!
Then we went up the coast some more... north of San Francisco to the Redwoods. In northern California there are combination state and federal Redwood Parks. Very nice. Big ass trees! 300 feet tall or more! Lots of hiking and gazing at the trees. The climate is really unique. Lots of ferns grow amidst the redwoods.
We headed to Eureka, Arcata, and Crescent City, California, as well. Very nice beaches in the area. The wind was howling (gale force according to the television) making for some big waves.
Then we drove up the coast some more into Oregon. We stayed in Coos Bay where they have an amazing state park nearby. There was an amazing botanical garden at this state park. It reminded me of Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia. The ocean was very angry the day we were there... the wind was howling, and the waves were crashing. What was amazing to me was a nearby cove that was protected from the wind and surf. The beach was nice, and the tidepools were protected as well. There was a sign mentioning the liklihood of sea mammals living there as well. I could understand why the seals and sea lions would hide in this cove.
That was about the extent of the trip. Over 3,000 miles. We headed north to Reedsport, and then went inland to Eugene. I was suprised to see how large the Umpqua River was... it was big! We drove over the mountains to Bend. Through the Cascades, I believe. There was snow at the summit... about 4,600 foot elevation. I was suprised again... seeing snow on the ground in July when it was dang hot!
The next day we drove from Bend to Idaho Falls. The trip from Bend to Boise sucked. The Eastern Oregon desert is endless and boring. Lots of road construction.
I got home last Thursday, and I am back at work today. I got my boxen folding right away... I turned in a few WU's last Friday.
Vacation was fun, but it is good to be home!
