idle temp for Q9450

Hi,

What is your idle temp for the Q9450? Of course assuming you are not overclocking. I am getting 44C. Is this high for being idled?

TRU120 AS5 line method 35-35-40-44 . Oh yeah and I am clocked at 3.6 ghz on a X38 DDR3 asus P5E3 deluxe

in my shuttle I'm getting 51-51-49-49 which I'm pretty sure is not right, but I haven't been able to check it against any other SX38 owners yet.

I'm going to reapply my AS and reset my ICE unit, and see how it goes from there.

Well considering you guys have a quad core CPU im guessing 44C idle temp is reasonable. since before the the socket 478 Prescotts were hitting around that temps too at just single core.
what is you cooling solution?

At stock using realtemp, my core temps were between 29-33 (except for my one broken temp on core 4, which was stuck at 45C when the temp was 45C or below). Using a Ninja HS w/ 120mm fan.

I'm getting very strange readings from my q9450 (using realtemp):

idle

core1: 53c
core2: 54c
core3: 35c
core4: 35c

full load (occt'd)

core1: 62c
core2: 62c
core3: 47c
core4: 49c

I would of guessed that my hsf is not making sufficient contact (non coplanar), but the Trise is pretty much tracking with one another, so i think it's the sensors (common issue)...interestingly enough, if i change back to an older bios, the temp profile changes again to like high 30's idle.....

When I have my X3350 at stock ... at full load I'm pulling 48,50,51,51C. Watercooled.

when I'm running at 3.8Ghz... at full load I'm pulling 58,58,62,62C. Watercooled.


I don't remember what the idle temps are because my rig is running 24/7 Folding.

Use RealTemp. And seriously, do a little research as to why. Some programs use TjMax of 105, RealTemp uses TjMax of 95 and when configured correctly is VERY accurate. Theres your almost(or more) than 10 degree difference. Again, if you dont know why two or more programs report differently, research! So much complaining about temps lately , I seriously wonder how much thought was used when people purchased their processor. Not very [H]ard IMO

Well coming from a S939 processor based system where I wasn't overclocking, temps weren't an issue, and jumping about, oh, 5 generations of processor ahead to Intel after having used AMD for the last 9 years there are questions that I don't know to ask, and issues I wouldn't know to research.

I'm not complaining about temps, so much as asking "is this inline with the rest of the people running similar setups?" Don't think I haven't searched google and haunted this forum and Sudhian to see if my rig is running along the normal operating temps. It gets even harder to compare data where probably 90% or more of you are running something other than a Shuttle SX38P2/Q9450 combo, which basically means I have nothing to go on other than my own findings unless I find another owner with exactly my setup.

I do appreciate the link to realtemp, so honestly, thank you for that. I don't appreciate the admonishment, like we're all a bunch of newbs for asking questions. TjMax was a clothing store I bought socks at before your post. I know more about it now, and thanks again, but it wasn't a term I'd ever heard of previously, nor had any reason to know of it's existence.

I understand your concerns. This temp reporting problem isnt anything new really, and has been explained numerous times throughout the net. This link explains a little bit about RealTemp, plus some discussion on the program/download. Yes, I also understand you may have never heard of TjMax before, other than the clothing store. But you used a program(RealTemp) in your screenshot that shows TjMax as a value. I would think if your going to use a program, you would understand a little bit about it. Its great to ask questions, but posting a screen with WTF?!?! written on it shows you have little if any understanding how your processor works. That would indicate novice(or NEWB, in your words) IMO. No offense intended. Just pointing out the obvious. Again, this really isnt anything new(though RealTemp is recent) and there are numerous discussions about this subject.
