I have a really old IBM Powerserver 320H system that is needed for access to some old data.

The system will only power on fully every once in a while and since parts are not available for it, I was wondering if software that was made to run on an old version of AIX should run on a newer version of AIX provided the newer system is also has an RS/6000 type processor.

Well.. according to IBM.. it should work. I am not sure of the version of AIX on the old system though. I am thinking it is probably 4.3.. but it may be some 3.x version. If I can ever get it to power up fully again I will check.

Found a compatibility table that says that the 320H is compatible with up to version 5.1 of AIX.

However.. it may actually be running as low as version 3 of AIX according to the IBM support person I asked.

edit: at the very bottom of this page... is says that as long as it was made for version 3.2 or higher it should work on newer versions of AIX.

So.. hopefully I can get this up an running on a newer system or on an emulator.

Now I just have to wait for the SCSI card to arrive so I can mess with it.

Any insite into doing this sort of thing would be very helpful.

Well.. since apparently nobody here actually has any experience with IBM pSeries or the older powerserver systems which run AIX, I have gone ahead and purchased a 4x450Mhz 7026-B80 system off of Ebay since according to IBM documents should be able to run the software that is currently on the fried 25Mhz system.

I'll post back with results once I receive the newer system.
