I know this is a rookie question, but I want to be sure before I drop a day's pay on a new CPU... I know it's not going to be perfectly compatible, but still..

OK, so I'm looking to put OS X onto my Inspiron 8200 dell laptop. Because I'd like to be able to run rosetta apps, I need SSE3 instructions, which requires a CPU upgrade.

I have an i845d chipset, and I am looking at the celeron 325 (in the 478 socket, natrually...)

Now, I doubt the chipset supports the 533mhz bus, but even at 400, the multipliers work out to faster than my current CPU, if only by a small margin.

My question is if the chipset is compatible, even if it won't run as fast. I've never really had to research an intel CPU upgrade before, and google is giving me nothing but dreck, and searches on this forum for 'i845 533' and 'i845 celeron d' pulled up nothing.

thanks in advance, rosonowski
