i7 vs dual e5520s

Your link is broke, but I would STRONGLY recomend just building your own rig instead of buying one from worstbuy (I was a "geek" there for a few weeks, worst job of my life, I couldn't adapt to the "charge more give less" way of life)

oh i know they are overpriced. but there's no computer shops like microcenter or frys around here where i can buy parts. and b/c of my job, i'm not at my apartment for the next 6 weeks.

but anyways, it's a dell with an i7-860. what are the odds of me being able to overclock it, or will dell stop me from doing it in the bios?

Dell will not let you OC.

so is there anyway to flash the bios or something? or another way to overclock it?

There used to be a program out there that would allow you to change the timing clock. Not sure what the name of it was. I bet some here will be able to help.

would it be worth getting the dell with the i7-860 or an asus with an i5-650? the dell costs more, but has a video card, but it's ati

I'd go for the better cpu, get the dell if you have to buy a premade system.

You mean people besides my aunts buy premade systems?

Ewww...

Proc 250
Mobo 175
RAM 150
HDD&Optical 100
Case 75
PSU 75
OS 100
HSF 50

That comes to 975 with a system you can oc and has better quality parts.

If you catch a deal or get parts used that price comes down even further.

thanks. but there's nowhere to buy that stuff here. i'm in the biloxi, ms area for work, so shipping here isn't going to work.

Ask around, maybe one of the hard folders that is a little more frequent here lives around there, you can buy the parts and send em there

Just a thought, might save ya a few bucks, I know weve got a handful here in Ohio alone, and I'm sure we'd all do something like that for each other if we needed too

If you have an address and are going to be there any real length of time someoen can get it to ya. Priority mail takes 3 days max.

I'm trying to understand.... are going to set up a system in a hotel room?

well, i do have my mail forwarded here, but haven't received any yet. and i've looked at ordering some things online, and they say i have to put this address on my credit card! i'd rather not.

not exactly a hotel room, but basically yes - a condo.
