i7 920 -> i5 3570

So my motherboard on my i7 crapped out today. Would it be worth it to upgrade to the 3570 or just buy another motherboard to replace my crapped out one?
 
Work out the cost differences then look at what you need for performance. The difference between a 920 and a 3570 is pretty significant but not if you're just web browsing.

Edit: even for rendering the 920 wont be that far behind.
 
My 3770 runs about 10*C cooler then my 920 did. Idles at about 27-30*C while my 920 is closer to 40*C.

There honestly both so fast that unless your doing encoding or something very data intensive you probably notice much difference. You can get a Sabretooth X58 for about $200, and its a very very good board for the 920.
 
Plenty of used x58 boards around the $100 mark nowadays.
 
if you live near a microcenter it would be worth it to ebay the cpu and get a 3570 IMO. you can bet a 3570K and a motherboard for about 280.00 tax included. if you can reuse the memory on your old board that would be a win
