I finally started playing games on my PC, but I'm a little worries about the temps. Under load, CPU temp shoots up to maximum of 72C. During idle, it's around 40-45C. Some say it's normal, but others seem to disagree. But personally I haven't experienced any form of instability.

OS: Window 8 Pro [64-bit]
CPU: Intel i5-3570K [Stock Speed]
CPU Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro V2
RAM: Corsair XMP 16GB DDR3-1600
Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V
GPU: MSI GTX 770 Gaming [2GB]
SSD: Samsung 830 Series [256GB]
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
Audio: Creative Sound Blaster Z
PSU: Corsair HX520 [Original 2006 Version]
Monitor: Viewsonic VX2770SMH-LED [IPS Panel]

Have you tried reseating the heat sink?

Idle seems high for what I'm used to for ambient temps, what's your ambient?

Okay. I'd try reseating the heat sink and reapplying your thermal paste, it looks a bit hot but there are simply just hot chips with Ivy Bridge.

Reseat and see if there are changes, something like intel burn test should be a good test on temps and stability.

Ok. But is it safe to run at these temps? I don't want to open it now and do it all over when I get a new case in 2-3 months. It take several hours for me to reseat the heatsink, so I might as well do everything together.

Your not in any dangerous territory IMHO I think you're fine. Keep an eye on temps when you're gaming or doing anything strenuous. You're still pretty far away from the Max temps for your CPU.

It never goes beyond 72C. GTX 770 is operating at 80C as it should. I'm guessing the high-temp is the result of poor airflow and possible heatsink issue. The case is quite old as you can clearly see. There are three intake fans and 2 exhaust (inc PSU).

Definitely seems like it's an airflow issue. I'm not totally familiar with the cooler you're using but a Cooler master hyper 212+ is really inexpensive, can accept two fans in push/pull and is a lot of performance for the dollar. Either way I think you're fine until the upgrade/improvement times you spoke of.

With everything loaded, it's hitting 80C. So I'm going to order the heatsink and a new case this weekend. Antec One seem to be best option, but the Cooler master hyper 212+ and EVOs are few mm too high. What's the next best alternative?

Once the GPU is on full load, it does get very close to 80C. The new components are arriving in few days. Hopefully they'll help to get the temp down.

Ordered the Antec One case and Hyper 212 Evo

The Antec One case and Hyper 212 Evo have improved things a little. CPU temp is staying below 70C. I guess it'll get even lower once the thermal paste settles in.

Thanks for all the help :)

Glad to hear your temps are down, airflow looks a lot better. Enjoy your build!
