Ok, some of you may know that I had some major video problems a couple days ago, and requested help concerning 'plaid' artifacts in Windows that made the computer unusable.
Often when these came up (they would take over the whole screen with abstract 'plaid' patterns, with Windows XP barely visible), ATI's VPU recover would cut on, and then it said it avoided a crash and that I should restart my computer.
I don't know if maybe it has to do something with this: When I got Doom 3, and installed it on a fresh Windows XP and HDD that was reformatted, I got those white 'sprinkle' artifacts that are infamous for ATI 9800 PRO users in Doom 3. I read user-created solutions and downclocked my core from 387mHz to 370mHz I believe, with Rage3d. This got rid of 99.99% of the sprinkles, and I played Doom 3 happily until school started and I didn't have much time.
*NOTE* I did not change my AGP voltage when I downclocked *Note*
You see, right when the problems began to get bad, Doom 3 would start up, but would crash to desktop in error saying my chipset didn't support some crucial features. I even reset default video speeds and it wouldn't work.
I reformatted my HDD, reinstalled Windows XP, and now I am starting to have problems- again. *Note* I did not change my video card's default speeds*note* Those plaid artifacts come up, and I often restart the PC to get rid of them. I installed Doom 3 again, and went into it. It let me into the game without crashing me, but once I got to the 'computer screen' where our hero enters Mars base (at the very beginning of the game), I got this:
Nice and glitchy. I didn't even bother letting it go into Doom3's 3d world, as I am now here, and frustrated.
I'll see if I can get some screens of these 'plaid' artifacts, which are at least not bad as they were (hence why I can actually type to you).
What do you think causes these problems, and how can I fix them?
