Okay, I know there are a billion other threads like this but, I need help. I am going to have $1000 for parts for a new pc. I know I want:

AMD 64 (3200+ to 3500+)
ASUS SLI Deluxe Mobo
1gig of any Ram
1 or 2 Nvidia sli compatable cards
Lian-li Pc-65b Case

I need help on what proc version to get, Ram, and the PSU also. I need this pc to last a couple of years. The graphics cards I was looking at were 2-Chaintech 6600gt's or 1-eVGA 6800gt. Im in need of some advice thats all, I'm really looking forward to getting this PC.
 
well, chip i would go with a 90nm Athlon64, they getting pretty good results overlocking. Also a single 6800GT will beat 2 6600GT in SLI. I would get the 6800GT now, and later on down the road get another when you can afford.

As for ram.....anything with Samsung TCCD chips is pretty decent for overclocking, lots of companys make it. Its going to be low latancy ram, like 5-2-2-2. I bought PQI PC3200 Turbo which is rated at 5.2.2.2. Its TCCD 437 on the chips. It runs happily at the stats in my sig. Im running my ram SYNC with my FSB.

I would get a decent brand PSU with at LEAST 400W. You might want to even get a 450+ cause the 6800 is a power hog. When you get 2 of those bad boys, you going to need alot of power. Antec, Enermax, Foltron all pretty good PSUs. I personally use a Antec SL400 Smartpower. Runs everything and rails still within the limits.
 
SLI is different from everything else in the computer world in that it is only cost effective when you buy the most expensive (read as fastest) video cards. Two 6600GTs are about the same a single 6800GT. I'm not even sure that two 6800GTs are worth it, I would go for Ultras, and unless you can buy them at the same time or reasonably close together, I wouldn't bother. The longer you wait to buy the 2nd card, the less likely you are to buy and the more likely that single card technology is going to catch up.

I don't know about the Aspire. It's on the Sh#tlist in the power supply forum, yet it's on Sharkey's budget system guide. I've never had one and I don't see others going around recommending them, but I haven't heard anything bad about them either.

A for the Ram, I was just thinking about a 1gb (2x 512) pc3200 pack of corsair VS or Mushkin. The graphics, will probably be one 6800GT for now, can you recomend any good brands and/or places to get one cheap?

No, get a Forton or Antec unit. Checkout the FAQs in the PSU forum.

I'd recommend a 1GB kit of Corsair Value Select PC3200. Cheap with decent performance. Great for stock speeds.
