Does anyone know of a wallmounted all in one computer. Preferably with a solidstate hard drive (doesn't need to be tho). This is for a home automation project for school.
It would be cool if it runs win xp or win ce.

Couldnt you make one? Seems like anything like that would be pretty expensive. Could make something for your needs for alot less money Ide say...
 
yeah, I'm not opposed to that route.
I would also need to create a nice mounting system for it.

One of the pluses of having it store bought is that when it comes time to do the report and show it off for senior design day i can show that most of the parts are able to be purchased from other places and dont have to worry about their hosue burning down.
 
Mounting system need to have a moveable arm or anything of that sort? Could just use an LCD mounting kit and rig up your project to connect to that.
 
Yeah i'd like it to be something that i can show that just mounts into or onto a wall in their house and is self contained. I know a lot of these senior design projects just show concepts but i like to take things a step further. I want to basically show that this system is actually ready to be installed into a house and not just a concept.
 
Im sure finding something to mount it to the wall wouldnt be too hard.

Basicly take a carputer and build it into a frame or something instead of a dash board. LCD touchscreen, via epia, tiny psu...
 
tablet pc's have a stylus input not touch. Web tablet would work but those are in the 900 to 1500 dollar range. I'm trying to find something in the 300 dollar range.

I don't need a lot of functionality. Just a web browser. Right now i'm using the 3com Audrey but the screen isn't that nice, it hangs sometimes, and the browser doesn't support anything but html.

making a miniitx is expensive when i have to buy the touch screen. earthlcd has screens and touch pads but the cheapest is 300 dollars. and that's just the screen. If i build a comptuer with that i'll be up in the 400 dollar range at least. Plus software and the time to load it.

If it's just for a school project, you could build a VIA rig for a reasonable price. How big does the screen need to be? A 7" or 8" Lilliput will run you $260, although you can easily score one for under $200. http://www.mp3car.com/store/index.php?cPath=25

Realistically on the low end I would say you are looking at ~$600.
 
earthlcd has a small pcbased system for $300 but it runs win98. I was hoping to get xp on there for better up-times. Win98 would have to be rebooted every day or two.
 
P233... That probably has about the same processing power as a VIA, believe it or not. XP is definitely doable. :cool:

haha. Basically that's what i'm looking for. I just wanted to know if anyone else knew of any from other companies along the same lines.

Earthlcd says that xp doesn't have the stylus drivers. Maybe if i do an upgrade instead of a reinstall it'll bring the drivers along with it.

The miniITX is still a possibility tho.
