I posted a thread a while back about my motherboard dying and how frustrated I was. Well, I sent that board back to Gigabyte for repairs (a P35C DS3R) and simply got another P35C from Newegg when I made an impulse purchase and went for a Q6600.
I was used to using a lapped E6400 that could run 3.6GHz on air with no problems. But, the temperature got pretty darned warm even on my lapped Tuniq tower.
You can also imagine how happy I was to see "SLACR" on my Q6600 box when I knew I had the G0 stepping.
So far because I didn't want to deal with lapping a processor and the Tuniq tonight (I just wanted to plug it in and go) I'm amazed by how well the Quad core processor is running on a stock heatsink. I haven't overclocked yet and won't until I put the Tuniq in. However, right now it's running at only 90F-91F on all cores. Idle has gone all the way down to about 86F-88F.
Things are unbelievably fast now too. Boot times are almost cut in half from what I had on the dual core chip.
In my opinion, if you can afford to go Quad core with G0 stepping, it's worth every penny.
