I have a question about the sharpness setting when using DVI ?

I just got a new monitor the GW2760HS. In the settings there's a sharpness setting. Before this monitor I bought the Dell P2414H and with that monitor I don't recall their being a sharpness setting with DVI or might of been one but don't remmeber, I returned the Dell cause it was too small for me and bought the Benq. I just never recall their ever being a sharpness setting for any monitors I've used in the past with a DVI, am I wrong and many monitors have a sharpness setting ?

Anyway I've been playing with the settings and on the Benq I find the webpage text a tad rough. So I adjusted the sharpness setting down to smooth the text edges a little. By default the setting is set at 50%.

I assume it's a tad rough because the PPI is a little low for 27'' @ 1080p correct ?

Last question, is their any cons adjusting the sharpness within the monitor for games or anything else that I've not for seen yet ? Have you guys ever adjusted sharpness settings on your monitor for the same reasons ?

some monitors add "sharpening" in the scaler and it can make artifacts and often the "default" option isn't the idea or optimal one.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to check all the test patterns that page offers, out of the box , most monitors are too bright and are set in the worst mode for accurate color and good brightness levels.

1080p low dpi and "big" pixels on a 27" but text should still look fine, mainly people don't like it because it feels cramped versus 2560x1440, it feels like your missing space and on a larger screen it is more annoying typically , especially if you are used to higher dpi screens on your other displays like tablets, phones, notebooks.. etc.
 
I use a 27" 1080p monitor (VG278HE) and text looks fine with ClearType calibrated. Dot pitch is high for desktop use at 0.311 mm/dot. I believe the sweet spot to be around 0.25, and 1440p is 0.233 at 27". I've been looking for a 1440p monitor to replace it, but for some reason high refresh rate monitors at this size are typically 1080p...

I'm using a DL-DVI-D cable and Sharpness is available as an option in the settings. On my monitor the 50% setting is neutral. Anything lower applies some sort of blur filter.
 
Sharpness is at 5 right now, it's between 0 and 10. Does 5 actually mean no sharpness at all meaning neutral ? or would that be the 0 setting ? Is sharpness setting usually a setting that is mostly always correct as is ?
 
Do as Undermined said, then your sharpness will be set the best it can.
Use that website as your guide to setting up the basics of your monitor and PC.
It helped me solve some long standing issues years ago and I always refer friends to it to get their PCs setup nicely.

Run through it multiple times to be sure you are happy.
