The temporary computer I have is having issues running my 3D modeling software for my engineering crap and the bearings in a few of the fans make it sound like a dying truck. (I have to turn it off just so I can study)

I feel that it is safe to assume AMD will not make a processor that will smoke the Q6600 or any other low end quads Intel puts out in the next few months. (PLEASE correct me if I am wrong)

Would it be a good idea to just buy an X38 motherboard and run a quad core for now? I would buy an 8800GTX from eVGA and pray they release a high end in the next 90 days.

I also was going to wait but early benches showed AMDs stuff not being so great. And now its still no different. I jumped ship about 2 months ago and haven't looked back. Good luck! :D

Why an X38 board? It just offers you Crossfire support and DDR3. They're still new and a little buggy from what I hear. No other benefits over the well proven p35 boards.

In the meantime, you can clean your fans and spray some WD40 onto the bearings.

I thought they would support all the new intel quad processors that come out next year?

Well not all, but most.

I thought about waiting too.
This was back in when Intel had it's huge price drop on the Q6600.
I think it was 23 August (correct me someone).
I wias told by some to wait till end of year for Phenom was gonna destroy all.

Wow so glad I didn't wait.
And so what if Phenom was faster I have enjoyed those last few months of gaming and what not on my new PC. Considering the POS I had before.
I got an 8800GTS 320MB and it's ok but seeing as that whole G92 turned out to be nothing but a cheap card that runs at the same speed as my GTS, I feel I might have been better off getting a GTX.

But enough about me.

A Q6600 in a P35 based mobo wont be a bad upgrade for you.
And yeah I hope nVidia launches a high end card thats 2x or more faster than the GTX.

GeForce 9900 Ultra FTW

I was thinking about upgrading around aug-sep too, had everything pieced together and was about to hit order...And then I saw a bunch of news about new stuff coming in Oct-Nov, since exams were coming I decided to wait.

Another reason to wait was I had just built my bro's dual core 6850 with a 8800GTX system and he was going to let me have his old AMD +3000 computer. The thing sucks so bad, I can hear it right now and it sounds like a truck that is dying. I cant even study!

Its so loud I can hear it in my bedroom of my apartment lol...

I just would feel really bad if I decided to invest 1500 right now only to have new stuff come out in 1-2 months. But the way ATi and AMD is sucking, I dont see nVidia or Intel being motivated to release shit.

This really sucks for the market, I pray AMD doesnt die. Had I bought it back in August, then I wouldnt of felt so bad if new stuff came out 5 months later. Thats just how technology moves. I want to atleast get one new thing on the computer (either a new quad release processor or a better than the 8800GTX card).

So annoyed!

Thanks for your input tho guys, and keep it coming, I have been watching this board close and a I am getting tired of waiting post pops up almost every other day so thanks for not flaming me.
