I am taking a vote here. Get a Raptor or get two sticks of HyperX PC4000 RAM? I can get them at CC for 119 a piece. But newegg has a raptor 74G for 214. What do you guiys think??

Whats wrong with your current RAM? PC4000 wont give you better performance. In fact PC4000 and its lax timings will give you worse performance in most areas, especially gaming.

Does your motherboard not support dividers? If it doesn't buy a new motherboard instead of the RAM.

hard drive. You can always put more volts thru your corsair.

I might be a bit biased though, I have been stuck with a 5K 40GB 2MB hard drive for a while now, and I've really gotten fed up with it.

on the topic of the 74GB raptor. The 36GB raptors now support all the new stuff the 74 came with. I think you should get 2 36GB raptors and run them in RAID 0. It will be cheaper, have the same space, and should be about 30% faster.

Seriously dude? I have been waiting on them to release the new 36GB versions and i was starting to think they weren't going to. Are the ones at Newegg the new ones? Are they as quiet as the new 74GB raptors? The 36.7GB versions still show the old specs on Newegg.

yeah, I bought one like 3 months ago from newegg and it was the new kind. quiet as a whisper and runs really cool. Almost cold to the touch.

Yea but how can you be sure its the new faster version? Is there some info out there somewhere on it? I'm getting ready to buy 2 raptors and i'm curious. Shouldn't they have the same seek time as the 74GB raptors if they are actually the new versions?

havent benched it, but I'm pretty sure it's the new one. It's silent and cool.

yes, I just purchased 2 36 raps to run RAID 0 and would also like more info on this as I thought that the raptors needed a firmware upgrade, but wasn't sure whether the current batch out were a new model.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I returned the HyperX RAM. I am going Raptor huntin'...
:D :D :D

Let us know how it turns out. I'm jealous, I'd love to have the raptors. I've got 2 sata seagates in RAID 0 and it's nice.
