Hypermemory? Disable or enable?

I've noticed in my Catalyst control center that under the hardware tab it says my 512mb 4870 has 2048mb of memory and that the memory type is Hypermemory. Does this mean it's gobbling up my system RAM to use as Video RAM? Is it a good or a bad thing?
